What is the Cash for Clunkers Bill?
The Cash For Clunkers Program, also known as the Car Allowance Rebate System, has begun as of the end of July. It will provide a rebate for anybody that trades in an inefficient car, towards a new, more efficient vehicle.
- Combined Fuel Economy of the old car must be 18 mpg or less, and the new car is 22 mpg or more.
- Vehicle must have been insured for the previous year.
- Car must be in drivable condition.
- It must be a new car, and not cost more than $45,000.
- There is a maximum of 1 rebate per consumer.
